Jean L. Artman, 90, of Belleville, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, at Valley View Haven.

Born December 4, 1934, in Lumber City, she was the daughter of the late John Freed and Margaret E. (Specht) Freed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald A. Artman and Brenda Sue Knabel. Jean was also preceded in death by her sister Priscilla Miller and three brothers:  Edward Freed, Norman Freed and Gerald Freed.

Jean is survived by her sons, Robert A. Artman and wife Susan Grindal of Dover, PA, and Steven D. Artman of Burnham.  Jean is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Artman (Lori) of Lewistown, Thomas Artman (Michelle) of Silver Spring, MD, Dr. Laura Artman of Pittsburgh, Erin Bandy (Craig) of Red Lion, Angela Artman of Red Lion, Trisha Knavel of Australia, and Patrick Knavel of Alaska.  In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren McKinley Bandy and Aurora Artman.

Jean was a devout Christian as a member of the Yeagertown United Methodist Church for 75 years and served as its choir director for many of those years.

For 37 years she was employed by the Mifflin County School District in cafeterias, retiring in 1999 as a cafeteria manager.

Jean was proud of her family. her home and her independence and was known for her warm hospitality, often entertaining friends and family, especially during the holidays when she took great joy in preparing and sharing festive meals.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 9th, 2025, at Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Highland Avenue, Lewistown, PA, with Pastor Steven Small officiating.  A meal will be served by the ladies of the church immediately following the service.
