Joseph A. “J.R.” Sheaffer Jr., 60, of Lewistown, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Jan. 31, 1962, in Lewistown, he was a son of Joseph A. Sheaffer Sr., of Lewistown, and the late Donna Jean (Hockenbrock) Sheaffer.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tara Jo Sheaffer, Jan. 1, 1992.
In addition to his father, Joseph is survived by: wife, Lorraine “Lori” (Kauffman) Sheaffer; son, Joshua Callegari and husband, Phillip, of Deltona, Fla.; stepsons, Michael Shafranich, of Granville, and Lucas Shafranich Sr., of Lewistown; stepgrandchildren, Reagan Shafranich and Lucas Shafranich Jr.; and siblings, Dan Sheaffer and Kimbra Jo Sheaffer Packard and husband, Dale, both of Lewistown.
He was a graduate of Lewistown High School.
Joseph was currently employed by the Borough of Lewistown for over 30 years, where he drove refuse and recycling trucks. He served as the local union president for many years.
J.R. was a hard worker and loved tinkering around the house, doing projects, gardening and yardwork. He especially enjoyed creating and experimenting with solar powered inventions for his yard, pool and shed. He and wife Lori enjoyed camping and attending concerts, however, his most important role was being “pappy” to his grandchildren who he adored.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Avenue, Burnham.
