Joseph “Joe” A. Hunter, 84, of McClure, passed away at 4:43 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at his home.
Born March 3, 1940, in Havice Valley, Milroy, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Jeannette M. (Baker) Hunter. In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Long, and brother, Ed Hunter.
Joe is survived by: wife, Connie D. (Bowersox) Hunter, whom he married Jan. 17, 1959; children, Timothy W. Hunter and wife, Karen, of McClure, Debora Y. Nester and husband, Donny, of Va., and Andrew W. Hunter and wife, Ruth, of McAlisterville; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and siblings, Wanda Walters, Betty Greca, Shirley Shawver and husband, Gordon, and Ronald Hunter and wife, Pam, all of McClure.
He attended Lewistown Vocational-Technical School and was employed throughout his life as a truck driver and truck mechanic.
Joe was a member of Wagner United Methodist Church.
He was an avid Penn State football and NASCAR fan and enjoyed listening to country music and camping with friends at Buttonwood Campground and Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Joe was a great husband, father, and grandfather and would do anything for anyone. He will be missed.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Avenue, Burnham.
The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at the Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Swigart officiating.
Interment will take place at Wagner Cemetery, McClure.
