Kathryn Fay (Speers) Clemmer

Kathryn Fay (Speers) Clemmer, 93, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at The Atrium at The Village at Penn State, in State College.  She formerly lived in Lewistown, McClure, Glenmoore and Davon, all in Pa.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, James B. and Esther (Fay) Speers, of Devon; her husband, Richard Irving Clemmer, on September 4, 2018 after a seventy-four-year marriage; and an infant daughter, Kathryn.  She is survived by: sons, Richard I. Clemmer Jr. (and his wife Virginia B.), of Wilmington, Del., and Jonathan G. Clemmer (and his wife Irene L.), of Paoli, Pa.; six grandchildren, Kate, Andrew, Charity, Peter, Matt and Dave; and a brother, James Samuel Speers, of New Jersey.

Kay was born on August 2, 1925 in Palmyra, New Jersey, and was a graduate of Tredyffrin-Easttown High School in Berwyn, Pa. She studied Home Economics at Drexel University and during World War II, worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad before marrying in 1943.  She was a dedicated mother and Christian who saw her calling in life as being a loving wife, parent and sister.  As a skilled homemaker and businesswoman, she practiced hospitality with ease.

After her sons were grown, Kay founded a business called Double Eagle Sales which conducted estate sales in Delaware and the western suburbs of Philadelphia.  Kay became an expert in her field and her innate sense of style was highly sought after until she retired on the occasion of her husband Dick's retirement in 1977.

Kay had many interests in addition to homemaking and Double Eagle Sales.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, antiquing, sewing, cooking and listening to classical music.  Perhaps her most profound gift was in interior design and home decoration.  Like her relatives before her on the Speers side, she had a gift that was universally acknowledged.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Mount Rock Cemetery, Oakland Ave., Lewistown.  A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at The Atrium at The Village at Penn State, 160 Lions Hill Road, State College, with Rev. Drew Fenstermacher officiating.
