Kurt L. McKinney, Sr., 83, of Lewistown, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, in Belleville at his son's home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 18, 1939, in Bellefonte, Pa, he was a son of the late George L. and Pauline M. (Taylor) McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lorma L. (Querry) McKinney.
He is survived by his three children, Kelly L. Gardner and her husband, Richard, of Altoona, Terri L. Seay and her husband, Mark, of Harrisburg, and Kurt L. McKinney, Jr., and his wife, Bridget, of Belleville; three grandchildren, Matthew McKinney and his wife, Debra, of the Dominican Republic, Michael McKinney and wife, Jessica, of Halifax, and Mavryk McKinney, of Belleville; and a sister, Sandra Cook, and her husband, Bob, of Lewistown.
Kurt was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 54 years where he served as a volunteer minister and was a beloved part of the Lewistown congregation. He was loved and respected by those who knew him for his genuine kindness, loving concern, generosity and conscientiousness. He loved serving Jehovah God and he truly cared about other people. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and assisting others spiritually.
He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours in the woods and at the family cabin in Krise Valley. He was an amazing baker and he enjoyed sharing his baked goods with others throughout the years.
He was a graduate of Chief Logan High School Class of 1957.
In his earlier years, he was employed by Letterman's Bakery, American Viscose Corporation, Pa State Forestry Department, J M Young & Sons, etc. He, also, had his own carpet and upholstery cleaning franchise, Duraclean Fabric Specialists, as well as his own business supplying commercial janitorial services, for the Juniata Valley Bank and a few other local businesses in the Mifflin, Juniata, Perry and Centre counties, etc.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Lewistown located at 1125 US 522 N, Lewistown, PA 17044, on Sunday, April 9, at 4:00 pm. Private Interment will take place at the family's convenience at the Mount Rock Cemetery.
