L. Irene Mayes, 83, of Burnham took the hand of her Heavenly Father and entered the gates of eternal peace at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at Geisinger Medical Center Danville with her husband and daughter by her side.
She was born Dec. 12, 1936, in Ryde, to the late Edward A and Sarah C. (Moist) Miller.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Donald Miller, Marlin Miller and James Miller; a son-in-law, Michael Fishter.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Samuel Mayes, of Burnham; her children, Randy Mayes and wife, Gail, of Burnham, Cathy Fishter, of Lewistown, and Sarah Hoar and husband, Scott, of Burnham, who always said she was the best mother-in-law anyone could ever ask for; grandchildren, Justin Mayes, Heather Reichenbach, Nicholas Fishter, Brandi Vork, Scott Hoar, Seth Hoar, and Amanda Hoar; and eight great-grandchildren; a brother Dr. William Miller, of San Diego; and sister, Anna J. Miller, of Lewistown.
She was a member of the Burnham Church of the Brethren. She served on the church board and choir. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She has left nothing but wonderful memories that her family will cherish forever. Her love for the Lord showed in everything that she did, and she instilled that faith in each of us.
We ask that any memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. This charity was very dear to her heart.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
