Larry Alan Treaster, 81, of Granville, passed away at 1:09 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born Jan. 10, 1943, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Lawrence I. and Nellie A. (Fultz) Treaster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Treaster, and sisters, Jean Rheam and Naomi Musser.
Larry is survived by: his wife and bride of 63 years, Carol M. (Bigelow) Treaster, whom he married July 2, 1961; four children, Natalie Pry and husband, Kirk, Scott Treaster, Joshua Treaster and wife, Leslie, and Kathy Fisher and husband, Mark, all of Lewistown; eight grandchildren, James Pry and wife, Nancy, Jillian Yoder and husband, Seth, Kristin Wray, Nathan Dobson, Garret Treaster and husband, Justin Kim, Jacob Treaster, Ashley Bowen and husband, Marty, and Nikki Fisher; five great-grandchildren, Sophia Pry, Destiny Walters and husband, Justin, Dru Speece, Jaxson Speece, and Lincoln Wray; and great-great-grandchildren, Rhett and Ivy Walters.
He was a Chief Logan High School graduate, Class of 1960.
Larry served in the U.S. Navy from June 1960 to Jan. 1964 as a trombone player and member of the Naval Fleet Band, where he served aboard different aircraft carriers, including the U.S.S. Forrestal. He completed the U.S. Naval School of Music course at what is now Anacostia-Bolling military installation in Southwest Washington, D.C. After military service, he played for a time in the Siglerville Band.
He retired from Standard Steel Corporation with 40 years of service as a laboratory technician in the Metallurgy Department.
Larry was born again in 1974 upon accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his life. He attended Ellen Chapel Church and enjoyed reading and studying God’s word and sharing it with others. Larry treasured special moments shared with wife, Carol, and dearly loved his family and family gatherings. Each family member was special to him in their own way. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed hiking in the woods.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mark Hill and Mr. Steve Prokopchak officiating.
Private interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park, with military honors provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
