Leonard D. Moist, 86, of Lewistown, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born December 24, 1937, in McVeytown, he was the son of the late Virginia (Moist) Lear and step-son of the late Roy Lear.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Lear.
He is survived by his wife, J. Elaine (Bingman) Moist, whom he married Aug. 26, 1961; son, Kevin M. Moist and wife Jennifer Streb of State College; siblings, Sandra Kyler and husband, Bernie, of McVeytown; and Carol Kimberly and husband, Hugh Tucker, of FL.
He was a member of Vira United Methodist Church, where he was very active within the church.
Leonard was a 1955 graduate of Bratton-McVeytown-Oliver (Rothrock) High School, and then went on to earn an associate’s degree from Central Penn Business College.
After graduation he embarked on a career in banking, serving the community for many years at Lewistown Trust Company, Russell National Bank, Omega, and First National Bank.
He enjoyed playing golf at Lewistown Country Club, gardening, and traveling across the U.S. and abroad. After retirement, he enjoyed working as a cashier with Grassmyer Auctioneering service.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown; a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Joshua Randolph officiating.
Interment will take place at Vira Methodist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Leonard’s memory to Vira U.M.C., 111 Long Lane, Lewistown, PA 17044.
