Linda Lee Hughes, 67, of Mifflintown, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born Feb. 13, 1956, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Ilah N. Hughes.
Linda is survived by: her companion, James Martin; sister, Pearl “Penny” Reiter, of Mount Joy; dear friend, Carol Smyers Benner and Carol’s children, Ian Larson and wife, Jamie, Megan Yoder and husband, Ryan, and Sara Jo Marsh; and by her former husband of many years, Mark Baylor, with whom she remained close.
She was a Lewistown High School graduate, Class of 1974. Linda attended Point Park College in Pittsburgh, where she studied Advanced Dance and Ballet.
She was a dance instructor at Miss Judy’s School of Dance in Lewistown, and continued at Miss Stephanie’s School of Dance after an ownership change, where she shared a special bond with all her students, instilling discipline and encouraging expression in scores of young students. Linda also served as a choreographer for the Miss Tri-County and Miss Central Pennsylvania Scholarship Pageants. After her “ballet feet” made instruction difficult, she moved on to a position with Overhead Door Corporation and built another “family” there.
A viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown, followed by a graveside service and interment at Juniata Memorial Park, 9010 US Highway 522 South, Lewistown. Following services, friends and family are invited to gather at the Clubhouse Grill, 23 Parkside Court, Mifflintown, PA 17059, next to Sheetz.
