Mary Catherine Shingler, of Lewistown, entered the presence of her Savior on December 31, 2023, at the age of 100.

Born Dec. 18, 1923, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of William Cloyd and Cora E. (Bardell) Morgan.

Mary is preceded in death by:  her parents; her husband, Fred Martin Shingler, whom she married in 1951; four brothers, Robert, William, C. James, and Richard Morgan; and two sisters, Louella and Helen Morgan.

She is survived by: her only son, Michael Lee Shingler and his wife, Sabrina (White) Shingler, of Syracuse, N.Y.; a brother, Donald Morgan and his wife, Shirley (Baker) Morgan, of Alfarata, four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Lewistown Area High School, Class of 1942.

Mary was a founding member of Calvary Bible Church in Lewistown, having previously been a member of the Church of the Brethren.  She was a hard worker, who loved her Lord and her family.

Mary worked for various employers over many years, including the Lewistown Viscose, Davis Manufacturing in Beaver Springs, and, lastly, at ICP Crown in Lewistown.  She retired from full-time employment at age 76, then continued to work with Fred in the family’s greenhouse business for several more years.  She was an active member of the Mifflin County Republican Committee and Mifflin County’s 9-12 Project.

Mary enjoyed flower gardening, swimming, and cooking big meals to host family and friends. It was always a delight for her to have the grandchildren and, later, great-grandchildren, come to visit.

A viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m., with Pastor Ethan Druckemiller and Pastor Michael Shingler officiating.

Interment will take place at Belleville Lutheran Cemetery.
