Matthew Alan Pierce, 53, of Juniata Terrace, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, at his home, and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born Dec. 14, 1967, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Leslie Blair Pierce Jr., and Cheryl Ann (Buffington) Pierce Hasson, of Reedsville, who survives.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by: paternal grandparents, Blair and Mary Pierce; maternal grandparents, William and Helen Buffington; aunt, Colleen Pierce; and cousin, Mark Buffington.
In addition to his mother, Matt is survived by: stepfather, John Charles Hasson; his devoted sister and brother-in-law, Christine Lynn Prough and husband, Steven, of Strodes Mills; uncles and their spouses, William and Rosemary Buffington, of Stuart, Fla., Ralph and Deborah Buffington, of Sweetwater, Tenn., Bruce and Laura Buffington, of Belleville, and David and Debbie Buffington, of Hummelstown; great-aunt, Ethel Cippolini and husband, Ed, of Philipsburg; cousins, Joy McCliment and husband, “Turtle”, DeDe Coleman and husband, Ernie, and their families; and step-brother, Scott Hasson and son, Atom.
Matt graduated from Lewistown High School, Class of 1987, and from the Hiram G. Andrews Center and Commonwealth Technical Institute in Johnstown.
He attended Pine Glen Alliance Church, Lewistown.
Matt was a knowledgeable and enthusiastic sports fan and lived for anything baseball, football, basketball, tennis, and hockey. He especially loved the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Dolphins. He enjoyed bus trips to Phillies games and taking road trips with his sister and brother-in-law to as many stadiums as possible. He was also an avid collector of baseball caps.
Matthew loved his Philipsburg family and spending summers with his great-uncle, great-aunt, and special cousins.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, which will include private interment at Juniata Memorial Park, 9010 US Highway 522 South, Lewistown, with Rev. Karen McCachren officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown.
The family would like to thank Matt’s Parkway family, especially Bob, Tina and Heather, for being his social outlet and safe place to talk all things sports, and for their special love for him. A thank you is also deserving of his loyal friend, Cheryl Finkle, who provided special care and friendship.
In lieu of flowers, Matt would love it if you would perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone in need, and, of course, cheer on his Dolphins to a championship victory.
