Michael Redmond, Sr. Obituary

Michael Barton Redmond Sr., 74, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Vincentian Schenley Gardens Assisted Living facility in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his beloved children.

Born on March 11, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland, Michael was the son of the late Leonard C. Redmond and Theresa (Mallione) Culbertson.  He was also preceded in death by his cherished wife, Linda (White) Redmond, and his stepfather, Horace Culbertson.

Michael is survived by his children, Michael Barton Redmond II and wife, Carissa, of Mooresville, N.C., and Micheline Ertley and husband, Derick, of Reedsville, along with four adored grandchildren, Ilsa and Elliott Redmond, and Ryland and Oliver Ertley.  He is also survived by his brothers, Leonard Redmond and wife, Shelley, of Baltimore, and Patrick Redmond and wife, Wendy, of New Hampshire, his stepmother, Joan Redmond and her four children and their families; sister-in-law, Margaret Dimoff and husband, Greg, of Mount Union, as well as an extended family of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who will miss Uncle Michael’s humor and mischief.

A proud graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa.  His love of history fueled a life-long passion for exploring flea markets, estate sales, and shops, always searching for unique collectibles and antiques.

Michael had a love of education and shared that during his many years as a dedicated substitute teacher with the Mifflin County School District.  As a 3rd degree Black Belt, Michael taught martial arts to hundreds of children over 30 years at his own school and at the Juniata Valley YMCA.  He served his community for many years as a dedicated member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary from 1985 to 2009, holding the position of Elected Division Captain in ’92-’93 and ’95-’96.
