Murray Laite Obituary

Murray W. Laite, 88, of Lewistown, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born July 29, 1936, in Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Chesley Harrison and Flora (Simms) Laite.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda S. (Riden) Laite; three brothers, Reginal, Gordan, and Berkey Laite.

He is survived by a companion, Wanda Gable, of Lewistown; children, James W. Laite and wife, Deborah, of Arnold, Maryland, Kathy L. Herman and husband, Scott, of Selinsgrove; grandchildren, Christine Milson and husband, Tanner, of Bethany Beach, Samantha Laite, of NY, NY, Mackenzie Moyer and husband, Jackson, of Carlisle; great-grandchildren, David Milson, Judah Milson, Calvin Moyer; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth, Ruth, and Carol Laite.

He was a graduate of Houlton High School in Maine.

Murray was a United States Army Veteran. He served from 1956-1959.

He was very active in Highland Park Presbyterian for many years.

He served as a Derry Township supervisor, Mifflin County Commissioner. He had been a member of Burnham and Chief Logan Lions Club, Lewistown Lodge 203 Masonic Lodge. He served on the boards of Derry Township Sewer Authority, Mifflin County Conservation District, and he was on the executive council for many years at the Penn State AG Extension.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2025, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at noon, with Pastor Bob Marsh officiating.

Interment with military honors will take place at Vira Methodist Cemetery.
