Nancy Louise (Smiley) Toner, 90, of Lewistown, passed away the morning of Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital. She resided at Magnolia Personal Care Center in Mifflintown since 2017.
Born Sept. 19, 1933, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Settle) and John Smiley. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Smiley and Patricia Leeper.
In addition to her sisters, she was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Fred E. Toner, on Jan. 23, 2013. They were married on July 23, 1955, in Winchester, VA.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra L. Altiery, of Lewistown and a son, Gary E. Toner, and wife, Deborah, of Point Pleasant, NJ; grandchildren, Kelli Burd and husband Robert, of Palmyra, PA, Kimberly Stutsman and husband Brian, of Madison, OH, Keith Altiery and wife Heidi, of Reedsville, Olivia Toner and Jake Toner, both of Point Pleasant, NJ; and 11 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Tanner, Christian, Eric, Luke, Adriana, Julian, Veronica, Zoe, Siena, and Nico.
Nancy was a 1951 graduate of Lewistown-Granville High School. She spent most of her career in the business office at Lewistown Hospital but previously worked at the American Viscose Corporation and the Arrow Shirt Factory. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Mifflin-Juniata Call A Ride Service.
An avid camper and traveler, Nancy will be remembered for her love of Elvis Presley music, late nights, watching sports, and anything purple; but mostly, she will be remembered for her strong will and love for family and dearly departed pets, Abby, Austin, Nick, and Taffy.
Family will receive guests at 12:30 pm, Monday, April 29, 2024 at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with a funeral service at 1:30 pm., with Rev. Debra Ernst officiating.
Interment will follow at Juniata Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Pets Come First, Centre Hall, PA.
