Norman D. Karschner, 90, of Lewistown Borough, entered into rest on Monday, September 23, 2019, at Ohesson Manor.
Born July 3, 1929, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Clarence A. and Catherine R. (Kreider) Karschner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: seven brothers, three sisters, and a granddaughter, Alaina Kensinger.
Norman is survived by: his wife of 65 years and the love of his life, Margaret A. (McMaster) Karschner; three children, Martha A. Karschner, of Belleville, Patrick C. Karschner (Vicki), of Broomfield, Colorado, and Nancy D. Kensinger (Edward), of Martinez, Georgia. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and is survived by seven: Heather Benner, Leslie Miller (Christopher), Jeremy Karschner (Meghan), Randi Ranck (Joshua), Joel Karschner (Shaeanne), Jason Kensinger (Chelsea), and Lindsey Motter (Justin); 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorna Smith, of Mapleton Depot.
Early in their marriage, Norman worked for Aspundh Tree Trimmers before going to work for New Holland as a welder, where he retired in 1991. Not one to sit idle, he quickly sought out employment at the Burnham Giant Store, where he was loved by so many for his friendly, outgoing disposition. He retired from Giant in 2009.
One of Norman's true passions was woodworking, for which he had a God-given talent and took great pride in every piece he made. He also loved to hunt and did so for as long as he possibly could.
His greatest loves were for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and for his family. He lived every day for them and worked hard to selflessly provide for his family and improve their lives. He was a faithful member of Calvary Bible Church, and in his younger years, served as a part time custodian and drove the bus for Vacation Bible School for many years.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main Street, Lewistown.
An additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., at Calvary Bible Church, 100 Calvary Lane, Lewistown, with Reverend John d'Esterhazy Sr. officiating.
