Patsy Bair Obituary

Patsy L. Bair, 91, of Lewistown. died peacefully on Aug. 9, 2018, at Ohesson Manor surrounded by family and friends. She claimed the promise God made to her in her baptism that nothing could separate her from God’s love. She had suffered a massive brain aneurism July 31 that left her largely unresponsive. Pat was a lifelong âModocker,ã residing entirely in the south end of Lewistown her entire life. Born to Philip and Myrtle (Smith) Hall on Dec. 18, 1926, she lived on West Hale Street and graduated from Lewistown High School in 1944. She worked as a bookkeeper at Bob Davis clothing store, where in 1945, she met returning serviceman Ed Bair. They were married Aug. 7, 1946, and lived on West Hale Street until moving to South Grand Street in late 1949. Pat remained there, after Eddie’s death in 2003, until she moved to the Mann Edge Apartments in January 2013. Pat worked for the Juniata Foundation for the Blind before working at the Giant Food Store for the majority of her work life. Whether serving as cashier, in the meat room, or in the bakery, Patás gregarious nature Page: 1 engaged many people and she talked about life with everyone, which was a wonderful way to share her sociable and interpersonal gifts. After retiring from Giant, Pat then worked for both the U.S. Census Bureau and finally for Lifeline at the Lewistown Hospital. While active in her work life, Pat’s faith, as well as her family, were her highest value, priority and commitment. Pat was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lewistown. She continued to be an active member, serving many roles including Sunday School teacher, prayer chain member, and (along with Ed) Luther League advisor. For a number of years in the 1970s and 80s, Pat and Ed were members of Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Yeagertown (Ed’s home congregation), where they appreciated the ministry and leadership of the late Pastor Dean Rupe and his wife, Maddie. They returned to St. John’s in the à90s. Pat was a life-long learner, a voracious reader, an enthusiastic cook and an adventurous traveler. Pat was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children: Rick L. Bair (Cathy), of Trumansburg, N.Y. and Susan L. Burns (Rich), of Reedsville. Also surviving are four granddaughters who loved their Nana and visited her in her final days: Deborah Bair Hladek (Keith), Chantilly, Va.; Sarah Burns Jacobson (Michael), Mifflintown; Carrie Bair Tully (Joshua), Silver Spring, Md.; and Rachel Burns McConnell (Alex), Brookville. Also, surviving are great-grandchildren: Lucas, Reid, Riley, Teddy, Grayson, Andrew, and Charlotte. Pat will be missed by her beloved companion cat, Luther. AdNo: 20240 Page: 2 A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 1 PM, Saturday, August 11, 2018. The family will receive friends for an hour before the service in the church parlor and also at a reception, in the church’s fellowship hall, following the memorial service. Interment will be at Juniata Memorial at a later date. Memorial contributions in Pat’s name may be made to: St. John’s Lutheran Church, Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation, and the Disabled American Veterans. The Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
