Phyllis Bitting Obituary

Phyllis M. Bitting, 91, of Valley View Terrace, Belleville, and formerly of Lewistown, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born September 10, 1930, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Bargo Sr. and Dorothy (Eisenhower) Bargo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. (Skip) Bitting, whom she married on March 1, 1952; sister, Shirley Bargo and a brother, Calvin Bargo Jr. and daughter-in-law, Diana Bitting. 

She is survived by; children, Jo Ellen Miller and husband, Dennis Sr., of Towson, MD, Carol Bitting, of Lewistown, Mark Bitting, of Carlisle, Kimbra Leister and husband, Randy, of Lewistown and Jeff Bitting and wife, Cathy, of Lewistown; eleven grandchildren, Dennis Miller Jr., Christian Miller, Peter Miller and wife, Molly, Thomas Miller and wife, Charmaine, Joseph Miller and wife, Danielle, Alex Bitting, Olivia Bitting, Jason Leister and wife, Erin, Eric Leister and wife, Olivia, Scott Bitting and wife, Shelby, and Lauren Bitting; and nine great-grandchildren, Ellie, Calvin, Philip, Gracie, Kylee, Jaxson, Brooks, Piper and Alora; sister, Leah Kenepp and husband, Joe, and brother, Barry Bargo and wife, Deborah; and sister-in-law, Peg Bargo, all of Lewistown.

Phyllis was Brethren by faith & was married at the Maitland Church of the Brethren. 

She was a 1949 graduate of Derry Township High School.

Phyllis was a very giving person and helped raise funds for both Arthritis and Cancer. She belonged to the Penn Highlands Band Boosters and volunteered in multiple organizations wherever her children were involved. Phyllis especially enjoyed the holidays and took pride in decorating her home. She enjoyed being outdoors tending to the flowers and caring for the birds. She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies & Nascar fan, her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. She loved her large family and enjoyed spending time with everyone, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. 

Private interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Burnham.
