R. Dean Wagner, 96, of Lewistown, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025, at his home.
Born July 16, 1928, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Mabel (Goss) Wagner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Ruble) Wagner; son, Roy Scott Wagner; granddaughter, Sarann Wagner; siblings, Kenneth Wagner, Sarah (Jane) Davis, Robert Wagner, and Helen Casner; daughter-in-law, Amy Jo Wagner; brother-in-law, Lewis Ruble.
He is survived by; children, Peggy Cox and companion, Rich Lukse, of Burnham, Vickie Peters and husband Steven, of Reedsville, Steve Wagner and companion, Teresa Williams, of Lewistown, Michael Wagner and wife Marikay, of Lewistown, Toni Goss and husband, Donald Jr., of Lewistown; grandchildren, Jason Wagner, Breann Schaefer and husband, Nick, Joseph Cox and wife, Monica, Jackie Holland and husband, Jason, Jessica Cox and wife, Betsy; Kristie Mathews and husband, Thomas, Scott Peters and wife, Abby, Steph Sheetz; Michaela Wagner and husband, Ryan Schmeck, Mackenzie Copenhaver and husband, Colton, Kasie Swineford and husband, Kyle, Kyler Goss and wife, Chelsea; 26 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren.
Dean was a member of Maitland Church of the Brethren. He was a member of Shanty Shack hunting club, Yeagertown Fire House, Lewistown Moose Lodge 143, and NRA.
His professional career spanned roles of hauling coal, working at Busy Beaver and Standard Steel, where he later retired. He also pursued contracting work, and owned and operated Wagner Construction.
Dean enjoyed being outdoors hunting and going fishing. Family was number one, he was deeply devoted to his family and was a dedicated attendee at his grandchildren’s sporting events.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2025, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m., with Pastor Jeannine Leister officiating.
Interment will be held at Maitland Church cemetery.
