The Rev. Wayne Korman Lutz. Born on September 18, 1945, in a farm home near Bellefonte, PA, he was the youngest of four children of LaRue and Dorothy Kathryn Korman Lutz. A graduate of Bellefonte Area High School in 1963, he continued his education at Penn State (1967), and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (1985) and United States Army Military Chaplains School, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey (1986). Ordained to the Gospel Ministry of The Presbyterian Church USA in 1985, he pastored congregations at Milroy, Burnham, Little Valley and Nottingham for 20 years. He was an active Presbyter serving on the Committee for Ministry in two Presbyteries, Commissioner to the Synod of the Trinity (twice), and Commissioner to the General Assembly in 2000. He was a member of The Presbytery of Huntingdon.
Rev. Lutz served in the U.S. Air Force active duty for 6 ½ years as a Navigator/Electronics Warfare Officer having graduated from the United States Air Force Navigation School (1968) and the United States Electronic Warfare Officer School (1969). He earned his Navigator Wings in 1968 and served a short tour in B-52 aircraft in South East Asia (Vietnam War) in 1970 and a long tour in E B-66 Aircraft in South East Asia in 1971-72. He was awarded Air Metals and The Distinguished Flying Cross. He later served 6 ½ years as Intelligence Officer in the Air Force Reserve. He attained the rank of Major. In 1986 he began a ten-year service as Battalion Chaplain with the 212th Infantry Battalion, Army National Guard.
Prior to attending seminary, Rev. Lutz taught Vocational Agriculture at Twin Valley High
School and Curwensville High School and served as an advisor for the FFA. The Curwensville Chapter was awarded several state and national always and he was awarded the Pennsylvania Young Vocational Agriculture Teacher of the year.
Rev. Chaplain Lutz served as associate Chaplain at Dauphin County Prison for 2 years full-time, and as head Chaplain at the prison for 12 years. His prison chaplaincy was certified by the American Correctional Chaplains Association.
Community outreach efforts included serving as President of the Curwensville Rotary Club and president of the Lewistown Rotary Club. He was awarded Rotary’s highest award in 1999, the Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of Logan Grange #109 and previously Penn Grange in Grampian. He attained the state degree and national degree. Rev. Lutz was a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and Military Officer Association of America. He also was a member of Civil Air Patrol and the American Correction Chaplain Association.
Rev. Lutz enjoyed antique cars and his joy was having a 1964 Corvair he had purchased in California in 1967 restored in 2020. He loved his mother’s dutch cooking, helping his father go to the feed mill, and drinking coffee, and playing golf with his father-in-law. He loved the close relationship with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren over the years. Since his youth, he enjoyed attending county fairs and keep up with his high school classmates on Facebook.
Predeceased by his parents, LaRue and Dorothy Lutz, and brother Richard. Rev. Lutz is survived by his wife, Linda Brown Lutz and their children, Kimberly Lutz Isenhour (Harrisburg) and Stephanie Lutz Ryan (Macungie); grandchildren, Rembrandt Ryan, Zachary Ryan, Madysen Isenhour, and Samantha Isenhour; brothers, Victor F Lutz (Bellefonte) and Ira L. Lutz (Bellefonte).
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2021, at Milroy Presbyterian Church, 321 S. Main St., Milroy, PA 17063, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor LeeAnn Peters officiating.
A viewing will also be held at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2021, followed by a Committal service at 7 p.m., with Military Honors, at Oxford Cemetery, 220 N. 3rd St., Oxford, PA 19363, Rev. Tyrone Carter officiating.
