Richard Pecht Obituary

Richard Raymond Pecht, 85, of Lewistown, slipped away to glory Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, at his home, after a long, valiant battle with cancer.

Born Feb. 24, 1934, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late John R. and Margaret E. (Fagan) Pecht. His wife of 63 years, Mary Margaret (Lindsey) Pecht, whom he married Sept. 16, 1956, survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Tamra Seiler and husband, Pastor Dennis, of Black Log; two grandchildren, Katie Larsen and husband, David, of Ankeny, Iowa, and J. Dwight Seiler and wife, Emily, of Albert Lea, Minn.; and one great-granddaughter, Heidi Larsen. A brother, Larry D. Pecht, died in 1995.

He was a graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany. He was a meat cutter at Giant Food, retiring in 1999 with 43 years of service.

Richard was a member of Big Valley Bible Church, in which he had served as elder and deacon. He also served as Minister of Records, 2010-2018.

He was elected Superintendent of Ryde E.U.B. Sunday School at age 16, beginning a lifetime of church leadership.

He was a 51-year member of Fort Granville Grange, and had been a member of Pomona Grange 35, the state and national grange.

He was an original member of the Walking Gang that met for walking and fellowship at Kish Park daily for 18 years. He was the last surviving member of the original group that became the Mifflin County Model Railroad Club.

He enjoyed travel, cruising, reading and word puzzles.

Richard’s memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, at Big Valley Bible Church, Reedsville (Lumber City), with PastorJames Hartzler officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until the time of service.

Private interment will be in Vira Methodist Cemetery.
