Richard Price Obituary

Richard C. “Dick” Price, 79, of McVeytown, passed away at 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born on August 7, 1941, in Allenport, Pennsylvania.

He was a 1959 graduate of Captain Jack High School in Mt. Union. Following graduation, he enrolled at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned a BA and later a MA degree in art. He began his 34-year teaching career in 1963 in the Susquenita Schools in Duncannon, Perry County.

Dick met his wife, Mary (Williams) Price in 1967 and they married in Lewistown at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on June 10, 1968; their three children, Kathryn Amato (Joseph), of Dubuque, Iowa, Richard D. Price (Sharon), of Harrisburg, and Samuel Price (Kristen), of Lewistown, also survive as well as six grandchildren: Emily, Jameson, McKenna, Sullivan, Madison, and Mackenzie.

His only sibling Samuel Dean Price preceded him in death on November 4, 2020.

Mr. Price was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Newport, Pennsylvania.

In addition to painting, Dick had many diverse interests and hobbies. He was an avid reader, old-time movie buff, radio DXing listener, French and Indian War student, camper, train traveler, model airplane builder, model railroad builder, hiker, and dog handler and trainer to name a few.

Dick loved his family and especially his grandchildren, his church, his Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, and the Yankees.

He was a member of the Braddock Road Preservation Society, the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society, the American Chesapeake Club, and the Mifflin County Dog Training Club.

Private graveside services will be held May 19, 2021, at the Mount Union IOOF Cemetery, with Reverend Rebecca Myers officiating.

A celebration of life memorial service is being planned for August 7, 2021.

In lieu of flowers or planting of tree, memorial contributions in Richard's name may be made to Mifflin County Library, 123 N. Wayne St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
