Robert H. Kauffman, 89, of Lewistown, passed away at 2:06 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born May 13, 1933, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Walter “Mickey” Kauffman and Edith (Wagner) Elsesser, and stepson of the late Glen Elsesser.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ron and Bill Kauffman, and a sister, Jeannine Kauffman, in infancy.
Robert is survived by: wife, Shirley (Lynch) Kauffman; children, Tammy Getz and husband, Mike, of Lewistown, and Bob Kauffman and companion, Christie Searer, of Reedsville; grandchildren, Travis Getz and companion, April Grose, and Evan Kauffman and companion, Maddie Pent; and great-grandchildren, Orli Getz and Sorin Getz.
He was a Lewistown High School graduate, Class of 1951.
Robert was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator from April 1953 to April 1955. He was assigned to the 304th Signal Battalion, where he achieved the rank of Corporal.
He retired from Bell Telephone Company as a technician.
Robert loved spending time with his family and was a big supporter of his son’s and grandson’s drag racing events at Beaver Springs and other in-state speedways. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, with interment at Juniata Memorial Park.
