Robert 'Bob' Bonson Obituary

Robert “Bob” Bruce Bonson, 74, of Reedsville, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, following a brief stay at Valley View Haven, Belleville.

Born Oct. 14, 1947, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Emory and Mary (Wagner) Bonson.  He was also preceded in death by his older brother, Benjamin Bonson.

Bob is survived by: his companion, Karen Hambright, of Burnham; children, Marihelen Hower, of Myrtle Beach, Melanie Calender and husband, Chris, of Lititz, Melissa Zook and husband, Travis, of Reedsville, and Tim Frymyer and wife, Lori, of Belleville; two nieces and 9 grandchildren:  Corey, Destinee, Thatcher, Easton, Jude, Bronn, Grey, Dema and Prima.  Bob is also survived by several lifelong friends.

He was a graduate of Kishacoquillas High School, Class of 1965.

Bob was a Vietnam Army veteran assigned to the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade from June 1967 to June 1969, achieving the rank of Sergeant.

He retired from Standard Steel Corporation as a foreman in the AFM shop with 44 years of service.

Bob was an outdoorsman, in particular he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, Lewistown Lodge No. 203.  He was a previous member of the Yeagertown Volunteer Fire Company where he served as a trustee.  Bob enjoyed playing golf with friends.  He devoted time to refurbishing a Farmall tractor.  In his later years, he enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren participate in athletics on the ball field, on the basketball court, on the dance floor and in the pool.  While at the games, Bob was best known for heckling the opposing teams and the coaching staff, especially when his son-in-law was coaching.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

The memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Funeral Home, with Rev. R. Jeffrey Fisher and Rev. Richard “Rick” Bender officiating.

Interment will take place at Mattawana Cemetery, U.S. Highway 522 South, McVeytown, with military honors provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council and his grandson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Reedsville Athletic Association, c/o Jared Getz, 89 Sparkle Drive, Reedsville, PA 17084.
