Russell G. Hummel, 89, of Wallaceton and a current resident of Juniper Village Wellspring Memory Care in State College, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025 with family by his side. He was born May 31, 1935 to Wilmet (Quick) and Blair Hummel. On July 2, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart Pauline A. Heny who preceded him in death on January 27, 2022.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Knepp and a brother Harold “Zeke” Hummel.
Russ is survived by his daughters Sharron Predix and husband Scott of Reedsville, PA; Holly Kane and husband Michael of Oregon and a son, Ed Hummel. Grandchildren Joel Predix, Haley Predix, and Jarrett and wife, Dr. CJ Predix, Darian Kane, David Kane, Dr. Alexander Kane and wife Kelly; great-grandchildren, Hudson Predix, Benjamin and Lucy Kane, and Sebastian Walker.
A 1954 graduate of Philipsburg High School, Russ served in the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin. Following his service, he attended DuBois Business College and received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. In 1973, he graduated from Lock Haven University with a Bachelor’s in Education. He retired from the CIU10 having taught the gifted program in the Clearfield School District.
Russ had many hobbies and interests including photography, videography, and music. He loved animals, especially his dogs. He recorded hundreds of hours of family and friends in video which now will be cherished memories to watch. He enjoyed collecting older model cars, vinyl records and attending grandchildren’s music, dance and sporting events. Russ had an insatiable appetite for ice cream, candy and hamburgers. He loved giving, especially at Christmas, and will be remembered for the annual King of Prussia mall trip where he played Santa Claus to his family. Despite his memory loss over the last 3 years, he never forgot his hometown and even in his last days had asked, “when I am moving back to Wallaceton”?
The family wishes to recognize all the special caregivers at Juniper Wellspring for their loving and compassionate care of our dad over the past 3 years and to Pinnacle Hospice for providing end of life comfort care during dad’s final days.
