Russell Pursel Obituary

Russell “Rusty” W. Pursel, 70, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

Born July 7, 1955, he was the son of the late Russell C. and Betty J. (Rook) Liddick.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susan A. (Pursel) Bearley, mother-in-law, Dorothy N. (Youtzy) Stonerook, and great-nephew Avery J. Haubrick.

Rusty is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean (Stonerook) Pursel, children Jada L. Pursel and Trevor W. Pursel, both of Lewistown and his brother, Jeffrey P. Pursel and wife, Dotti, of Lewistown.

He was a 1974 graduate of Lewistown High School where he played multiple sports.

Rusty dedicated many years to working at New Holland as a laborer, holding several positions throughout his time there.

Rusty was a life member of City Hook & Ladder Fire Company, and volunteer fireman in the earlier years. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and was a life member of Stone Creek Hunting and Fishing Club. He was an avid sports fan. Rooting for the Boston Celtics, Penn State, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and his beloved Cleveland Browns.

We would like to thank our wonderful family and friends for the outpouring of prayers, love, and support during this extremely difficult time. Special thanks to Rusty's nieces, Tana, Brooke, and Marilyn for taking such excellent care of him through his transition to heaven. You are all angels on earth. 

There will be no services per Rusty’s request.

Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 200 N Main St., Lewistown.
