Shirley A. Gussler, 89, of Lewistown, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 1, 2026, surrounded by her family at her home.
Born on December 19, 1936, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Beckwith Sr. and Bertrice A. (Treaster) Beckwith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald R. Gussler Sr., with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and partnership. She was also preceded by an infant daughter, Darlene Gussler; grandson, Daniel R. Gussler; her siblings, Charles Beckwith, Ronald Beckwith, Martin Beckwith, Barbara Parson, and June Pauly.
She is survived by; children, Denise Gussler, of Lewistown, Donald R. Gussler Jr. and companion, Barb, of New Bloomfield, Diane Gussler, of Marlton, Dana Snyder and husband, Jon, of Halifax; grandchildren, Steven Miller and wife, Karla, Benjamin Gussler and companion, Debra, Ciana Brown, Linzea Snyder and companion, Dylan, Brittany Snyder; great-granddaughters, Aubrey Gussler and Paislee Snyder and a brother, James Beckwith and wife, Marlene, of Johnstown; sister-in-law, Judy Nace, of McAlisterville.
Shirley was a woman who found joy in simple, meaningful moments. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ and enjoyed the fellowship and friendships she found there. She graduated from Lewistown High School in 1955 and spent her early working years at the Arrow Shirt Factory, where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Those who knew Shirley will remember her for her warm spirit, her gentle humor, and her love of dancing. She never missed a chance to enjoy music, laughter, and good company. She cherished traveling with friends, creating memories that she talked about for years. She also cared deeply for her community and proudly participated in Relay for Life, supporting a cause close to her heart.
Above all, Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, loved, and understood. Her home was a place of comfort, her hugs were unforgettable, and her presence brought peace to those around her.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Maitland Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Jeannine Leister officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
