Steven C. McCoy Obituary

Steven C. McCoy, 61, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at his favorite place, his cabin in Huntingdon County.

He was born June 6, 1962, in Lewistown, to Larry C. and the late Carolyn M. (Shoemaker) McCoy.  His father and stepmother, Stephany McCoy, of Mifflintown, survive.

Also surviving are:  wife, Susan E. (Heath) McCoy, with whom he would have celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary in June; son, Brett C. (Nicole) and their children, Greyson Heath and Brooke Rilynn, of Bainbridge; son, Aaron H. (Amy) and their children, Kayleigh Mae and Makenna Ryan, also of Bainbridge; sister, Barbara St. John, of Lancaster; and nieces and nephew, Kelly McNeal, Sarah Joel, and Leah Doyle.

Steven was a 1980 graduate of Lewistown Area High School and a 2010 graduate of Millersville University.

He was employed at Yellow Freight Corp. in Lancaster for 28 years before retiring in 2008 to return to college.  He was also a substitute teacher in Lancaster County.

Steve loved spending time at his cabin and in Canada with his children and grandchildren.  He loved hunting and fishing, was an avid reader and loved history.  One of his proudest moments was to present each of his sons with flintlock rifles that he custom built.  His final flintlock was built for his wife.  Steve spent several summers volunteering with Penn State Deer-Forest Study and the bear capture projects.

Per Steve’s request, there will be no services.  A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Spring, with information to be announced.

Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Burnham, is in charge of arrangements.
