William H. Conaway Jr., 84, of Lewistown, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at his home.

Born on August 7, 1938, in Grassflat, he was a son of the late William H. Conaway Sr. and Jessie C. (Morgan) Fisher Conaway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; siblings, Ruth E. (Fisher) Harbst, John F. Fisher, Samuel E. Conaway, and Arthur L. Conway; a nephew, Scott Harbst; and great-nephews, Jimmy Harbst, and Clayton Fisher.

He is survived by; sister, Sharon (Conaway) Smith and husband, David, of Grantville; sisters-in-law, P. Ruth Conaway, and Katherine Foser; nieces and nephews, Janice Fryer, Georgia Marston, Robin Goodman, John Clayton Fisher, Matthew Conaway, Tim Conaway, Tammy Hackett, Sherri Graven, Kevin Conaway, David Smith Jr., Timothy W. Smith and Deborah Bailey; many loving great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

He was a member of Lewistown Christian Missionary Alliance Church where he taught Sunday School and served as an usher as well as on the Church Governing board with terms as Secretary and Treasurer.

William was a graduate of Lewistown High School, Class of 1956.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960 and was stationed in Turkey, Texas, California, and Maryland including receiving technical NSA training.

William’s work career began at Danks & Co. He also worked at the American Viscose, Marlette Homes, Mifflin Labs and finished his work career in Juniata Terrace as the wastewater treatment plant operator & supervisor. During retirement he worked delivering prescriptions for Geisinger Lewistown.

William served on Juniata Terrace Borough Council for two years, including two years as president.

He also represented Juniata Terrace Borough Council on the Mifflin County Parks and Recreation Council for over four years.

He loved spending time with his family at reunions, holidays, and summer cook outs. He enjoyed going for drives and lunches with friends. He enjoyed fishing, movies, and games.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor John Looney officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park with military honors provided by Juniata County Veterans Council and VFW Post 7011.

Memorial contributions in William’s memory may be made to the Borough of Juniata Terrace, 80 Hudson Avenue, Lewistown, PA 17044 in the memo add comment- (100th anniversary/Bill Conaway) or to the Lewistown CMA church.
