William G. Shores, 93, formerly, of Lewistown, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
Born June 27, 1926, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Foster G. and Marjorie M. (Stoner) Shores.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: siblings, Clyde, Foster, Audrey Shores, and Joanne Bragg. William was the last of his immediate family.
He is survived by: children, Marjorie J. Glass, of Mifflintown, and Janice J. Owens, of Honey Grove; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He attended Lewistown High School and was a head drum major in the marching band.
William served as a surgical technician in WWII. He was awarded the good conduct medal, American Theatre Ribbon, and WWII victory medal. When he returned home, he was employed as a police officer with the Lewistown Auxiliary Police. He retired after 30 years of maintenance and meter patrol with Lewistown borough municipal authority.
He enjoyed singing gospel music. He was an original member of the Reveler’s Quartet, where he sang tenor at many live concerts and radio recordings. William will be long remembered for singing his favorite hymns.
He also enjoyed reading his bible and talking to his friends and family about his Heavenly Father.
A viewing will be held from 1-2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Judy D. Rowles officiating.
Interment with military honors will take place at Mount Rock Cemetery.
