William Sowich Obituary

William L. ‘Bill’ Sowich, 68, of Reedsville, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born October 27, 1952, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Lewis ‘Sue’ and Ruth V. (Orso) Sowich.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Bartholomew.

He is survived by; his wife, Nancy A. (Newman) Sowich, whom he married in 2002; children, Broc Walters, of Lewistown, Audra Mazzante and husband, Michael, of Williamsport, and Adam Sowich, of Williamsport; four grandchildren, Emma Walters, Quentin Mazzante, Camerin Mazzante and Kaylin Mazzante.

He was a 1970 graduate of Williamsport High School. Bill earned his business degree at Williamsport Area Community College and a bachelor’s degree in education at Lock Haven University.

William was a member of Granville United Methodist Church.

He served as a Vice President in manufacturing at Overhead Door, Alcoa, and Ball corporations. He was an owner and operator of PRN Medical Staffing of Lewistown, where he retired in May of 2016.

In Bill’s earlier years he was an avid softball player and enjoyed his time on the golf course. One of his true passions throughout his life was playing his guitar. Since his high school years, he and his close friends created a band to play old-school rock and continued playing throughout college. Even after retirement, he would get his guitar out to strum the chords of “House of the Rising Sun”.

While Bill was known for his successful career, his real life began with his true love for his wife Nancy and watching their family grow with each grandchild that came. They were the joy and happiness in his life. Although everyone knew him as Bill, the most precious name he was given was ‘Poppy’. He loved bragging about his grandchildren and never missed a chance to see Emma’s dance recitals, Camerin and Kaylin’s gymnastics’ meets, and Quentin’s baseball games. His bragging rights for his grandchildren had no boundaries and were as precious as was his generosity to them and his three children.
