William Weaver Jr. Obituary

William Walter Weaver Jr., 96, of McClure, passed away at 5 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Celebration Villa of Reedsville. 

Born Nov. 13, 1927, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William W. Sr. and Margaret C. (Tuttle) Weaver. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: wife, Peggy M. (Mauery) Weaver; a son, Thomas D. Weaver; and a nephew, Alex Weaver. 

William is survived by:  children, Peggy E. Davis and husband, Robert, of Renovo, William M. Weaver and wife, Pamela, of McClure, and Jon D. Weaver and wife, Kelly, of Shunk, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Holly Weaver, of McClure; seven grandchildren, Erica Wagner, Justin and Derek Davis, Aaron and Travis Weaver, Adam Weightman, and Tyler Rupert; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Weaver and wife, Ruth, of McClure, and Donald Weaver, of McClure; and nieces and nephews, Rhonda Carolus, Anna Lombard, Joshua Weaver, Teena Masters, and their families. 

He was a Lewistown High School graduate, Class of 1945.

William was a U.S. Army veteran assigned to Company A, 26th Infantry, from Jan. 1946 to July 1947as a heavy machine gunner.  He served overseas during the Nuremberg War Treaty.

He was Methodist by faith.

He retired with 45 years of service from the American Viscose Corporation/Avtex Fibers, where he was employed in carpentry and maintenance. 

In his early years, William coached Belltown’s Little League and was active at the Decatur Sportsman’s Club.  He loved spending time in the outdoors, hunting with his foxhounds, fishing, and gardening. His passion for these activities carried over to his children and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed woodworking and made beautiful furniture for family and friends. 

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Interment will take place at a later date at Mount Rock Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in William’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
