Benjamin E. Reed, 94, of Lewistown died at 3:25 a.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Golden Living Center – William Penn.
Born June 8, 1922 in Lewistown he was a son of the late Marian (Evans) and Benjamin W. Reed.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by: his wife, Loise E. Reed, who died on May 10, 2003; his siblings, Jim Reed, David Reed, Joann Long and Rhoda Runk; and a son-in-law, Richard Brubaker.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Brubaker, of Lockport and two grandchildren, Benjamin Brubaker and his wife, Kendra, of New Jersey and Kenneth Brubaker, of Lockport.
Ben was a graduate of McVeytown-Oliver High School.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 receiving the following medals: Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with four bronze stars.
Earlier in life he worked at AMP for many years, and then from 1953-2010 he was owner/operator of Reeds Greenhouse in Lockport.
He was a member of McVeytown Masonic Lodge #376.
Ben loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved animals and model railroading.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with Rev. Mark Brower officiating.
A viewing will be held from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Wed. at the funeral home.
Interment with VFW Post 7011 honors will take place in Juniata Memorial Park.
