I am so sorry to hear of Coach Monsell's passing. His expectations in the classroom and on the field or court were always the same, commit yourself 100% and do your absolute best. I find now as I look back on my high school years there are a few teachers who had a significant impact. I am proud to say Mr. Monsell was one of them. My heartfelt prayers go out to his family.

Dear Monsell Family,
We are so sorry for your loss. We both have very fond memories of him as an educator and coach. We enjoyed his 10th Grade English class, more than could have been expected . He was very supportive and encouraging. I still have a paper I wrote in his class. I was one of his baseball managers and Tom played football for him during the '82 and '83 seasons. You can't think of Chief Logan and not remember Mr. Monsell. We are all to familiar with the loss of a beloved father/grandfather. Please find peace and comfort in knowing how loved he was by all. God Bless.

My deepest sympathy to his whole family. You can be very proud of the legacy John left on Mifflin County. He was by far the best teacher I have ever had. He was always looking out for you and wanting you to be the best you could possibly be. I will never forget what he did for me during my high school years.

Dear Jayne and Family,
Kendra and I send our deepest sympathies to all of you. John meant a great deal to me personally. He was a mentor to me and a wonderful friend - easily the best friend I ever made during my teaching years. I am so sorry that I did not get to say goodbye to John. He made a stamp on my life and my outlook towards others and community - I hope he knows that. Thank you John, for being such a great friend - I will miss you!

Being from Lewistown, I played on the opposing team against John, but we both ended up teaching together for the Mifflin County School District. John taught at Chief Logan High School and I taught at Chief Logan Middle School. I also had John's son, Brett as a student, and his grandson Dave as a student. Like their father, they both are great kids. Brett also became a Mifflin county educator following in his father's footsteps.
John was a great guy and educator. and will be missed. Another "great" athlete from my era now gone. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with his family. Rest in piece my friend

Jayne,
I can remember you and John living in my the apartment in my parent's home on Freedom Avenue as I was growing up prior to you moving down the street beside the Newtown Fire house. I was extremely fortunate to later have had John as my honor's English teacher in 10th grade at Chief Logan. The man was an amazing teacher and I learned so much from him. He made the class interesting and learning fun. He touched so many student's lives and left such a positive impression on so many "Mingoes" as a teacher, coach and a good person. I want to extend our heart felt condolences from my family to your family. Heaven has definitely gained a wonderful addition while the world has sustained a definite loss with his passing. I feel blessed in having had John be a small part of my life.

Mr. Monsell was my eighth grade English teacher and was a great mentor to me. I will always remember him pacing around the room, chewing his gum.
My condolences to the family . He will be greatly missed! He will also be greatly remembered!

John and I taught and coached together. He was one of the most dedicated professionals I have ever had the pleasure of of knowing. Never afraid to get his hands dirty, John did more work preparing the baseball field than the entire grounds' maintenance crew. His preparation for every one of his endeavors left no stone unturned; "be prepared and practice for whatever could possibly happen". Mifflin County has lost another legend.

I was very sorry to hear of Coach Monsell's passing. His expectations and lessons on the athletic field and in the classroom helped to shape the person I have become. In fact, John Monsell is one of the reasons I am an English teacher today. He will be greatly missed!

Jane and Family,
I knew John since we were kids and was in his class in high school. We attended Shippensburg University (then Shippensburg State College) together. We even drove back to Shippensburg together, several times.
I will miss seeing his smiling face and speaking with him when I return home to visit.
He was a very special person to have known and I am sure you will miss him.

John was truly an individual who cared about kids. He was not only our class advisor for the first graduating class from Indian Valley (89), but served as our mentor through a challenging year. John was also the A.D. when I first started coaching in the Mifflin County School District. He encouraged me to build the program and not look for excuses. He was an instrumental part in building the program from the bottom up. John always believed anything was possible if people were willing to work for it and ALWAYS put the kids first. He will truly be missed, but not forgotten!

Jayne, so sorry about John. We will be out of town otherwise we would have attended the service. So much has all ready been posted about how great and wonderful John was and nothing more can be added to say how much John was liked and the great things he has done for so many. So thankful to have to have known John, he shall never be forgotten. God bless you and your family during these times.
