Although I've never met Mr. Murrell personally, I am very grateful for his service in World War II. He helped to liberate my hometown Erfurt in Central Germany on 12th April 1945.
Bob Murrell was invited by the Mayor of Erfurt to visit the city which he did in the 1990s after the German Reunification.
Rest in Peace, Sir!
Your achievements won't be forgotten.

Bob,
We were saddened to learn of Bob's passing. My father, Ben, respected and looked up to Bob so. He was always accommodating and helpful to us anytime we were together. Dad has great memories of the time spent together in Company M during WWII and afterward. Please extend our condolences to the family.

With sympathy,
Benjamin Rupp and Annette Rupp

We lived across the street in Oakmont from Bob and Doris.....We were young, first time homeowners, and they couldn't have been nicer.....Even though we only lived there for a few years before moving, our friendship continued throughout these many years....Bob was a fine man, and it was our good fortune to know him. While we were in Oakmont, our oldest son was born....Many years later, when he attended Pitt Medical School, his path crossed with Bob's daughter....It is indeed a small world, and one that was richer because Bob was a part of it.

I met Bob and Doris at the 1974 80th Division Veterans Association Reunion and through the these many years git to share many many events, including gatherings in my own home. This past August, I was able to take my late father to the 80th Reunion, where we got to visit Bob, back then who knew in a few months they both would be in Heaven with their wives. General George S Patton once said, "We should not mourn that such men have died, We should than God that such men LIVED." Thank you Bob for all you gave to others including me.

In your 100th year, Bob. We are thankful that you somehow made it through the war to come home and tell your story and the stories of the men you served with. Thank you for all the kindnesses you have shown to your fellow soldiers and their children.
Peace and comfort to Bob's family and friends.

Through the years, Bob's interaction with his Veteran Comrades and those others fortunate enough to know him, would provide stories several times longer than any of the books he authored about the 80th Division. What a privilege it was to be included in the Veterans Association with him. His and Doris's many kindnesses and generosity have been so appreciated. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends left to mourn his passing.
