Annis L. (Mellott) Downing

Annis L. Downing, 93, of Lewistown died at 10:23 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2015 at Valley View in Belleville.

Born on April 19, 1921 in Coalport she was a daughter of the late William H. and Lottie (Beers) Mellott.

In addition to her parents Annis was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Colyer and Florence Jordan and a great-great-granddaughter, Audrina.

She is survived by: her husband, Walter J. Downing, whom she married on May 29, 1943; her children, Debra Smoker and Annis “Twink” Downing, both of Lewistown; her siblings, William Mellott and wife, Bonnie, of McClure, Jack Mellott and wife, Ada, and Virginia Lepley, both of Lewistown; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Annis was a 1939 graduate of Lewistown High School.

Earlier in life she had worked at Arrow Shirt Factory.

She was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church.

Annis enjoyed going to Lone Pine Camp, knitting, reading and playing games with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6 at Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Highland Ave., Lewistown with Rev. Carola Beasley-Topliffe officiating.
