Nelson “Bingo” Hertzler, 83, of Lewistown died at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2016 at his home.
Born June 22, 1932 in Mattawana he was a son of the late Dale and Helen (Dunmire) Hertzler.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Edward Hertzler, and a sister, JoAnn Stuckey.
He is survived by: his wife, Barbara (Musser) Hertzler, whom he married Sept. 5, 1959; his children, Karin Hertzler, of Burnham, Jeffrey Hertzler, of Lewistown, and Robin Hertzler, of Lewistown.
Nelson was a 1950 graduate of Burnham High School and a 1958 graduate of Lycoming College.
He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant.
Mr. Hertzler was a teacher in the Mifflin County School District retiring after 25 years of teaching junior high Earth Science. He was a member of PSEA Retired Teachers.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model trains, flying airplanes and hanging out at the airport. He drove a van for disabled veterans. He was a Penn State fan.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, April 27 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., 108 First Ave. Burnham with Rev. Jeff Fisher officiating.
A viewing will be held from 10 – 12 noon, Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham.
