Raymond H. Snyder, 89, of Lewistown, went home to be with the Lord at 1:49 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after bravely fighting a long battle with illness.
Born May 5, 1928, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Ellis and Elsie (Wagner) Snyder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, Doris M. Snyder; a stillborn son; and siblings, Mary Bailor, and Robert, Richard, and Beatrice Snyder.
Raymond is survived by: his wife, Linda C. (Wagner) Snyder, whom he married Sept. 14, 1984; children, Paula McNitt, of Camp Hill, Pamela Otero, and Randy Snyder, both of Lewistown; step-children, Randy Fisher, of Pittsburgh, Tammy Thompson, of Lebanon, Brian Fisher, of Reading, and Joe Wagner, of Mifflintown; grandchildren and step-grandchildren; William McNitt and wife, Collette, Tara Carstetter and her companion, Chad Dickinson, Rachel Murphey and husband, Mike, Nikki Wagner and her companion, Gregg Derouanna, and Jared Wagner and his companion, Mindy King; seven great-grandchildren/step-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Glen Snyder and wife, Verna, Joyce Gemberling, and Maxine Everly, all of Lewistown.
He was an Army veteran who served from July 1951 to June 1953 with the 118th Combat Engineer Battalion in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
Raymond was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lewistown.
He was employed in shipping and receiving at the Arrow Shirt Factory for 32 years and later worked for the Green Thumb Nursery for several years at Reeds Gap State Park.
He loved stray animals and there was always room in his heart for one more. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed being outdoors.
Raymond was a very loving husband and amazing father and grandfather who always kept his family laughing with his sarcasm and witty charm. The world lost a great man and he will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Reverend Randy Hughes officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m. Thurs., July 13, 2017, at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with military honors provided by VFW Post 7011.
